Nightlife 25 April 2009

The big April news was the National broadband announcement by the Federal government. Should it really go ahead, This will change the Internet and telecommunications markets in many ways.

We've discussed this on the Paul Wallbank blog and we'll be visiting this topic again many times in the future.

Listeners' questions

As usual, we had a full board of callers but the only question we said we'd get back to is the Vista indexing problem and AVG anti virus.

Vista Indexing

Microsoft's Vista embarrassment continues with many people complaining about their systems grinding to a halt.

One obvious villian is the Windows Desktop Search and we recommend turning this off.

To do this, type Services at the Start Search bar, right click on the Windows Search service and select Properties. In the start type choose Disabled for the start type. Then stop the service by right clicking on it and selecting Stop.

The end of AVG Free

A few callers asked about the warnings they are getting from AVG Free that service is about to finish.

The reason is AVG 7.5 has come to the end of its life and AVG 8 is required.

We've have links to AVG 8 along with the free Avast! and AntiVir programs on our links page.
